Art/Writing Slump Woes
« on: December 21, 2016, 01:16:40 am »
I've recently found myself in an interesting position of wanting very badly to write or draw, but when I start, everything goes blank in my mind, so I figured why not make a post about things that I do when I get like this. Who knows? Maybe it'll help others. Besides, a nice place to vent may just be what the FDA-disapproved doctor Hema ordered.

My primary project lately has been a fanfiction I've been working on for a while, but the style of it, since it's focused on a certain character, heavily involves a certain way of thinking, and I think a lot of the reason I've had trouble writing it is because I can't get into that muse right now. So, to combat this, I've decided to take on another very short project for some friends of mine to contribute to and give ideas with just to get some fun juices flowing instead of the seriousness surrounding my other project. That way, I'll at least be writing something, and it might just kick everything else back into place so I can start working on the thing I actually want to get done by the end of this Winter Break.

Other things I do when I hit that brick wall include doing a more mundane version of the intended creative work. Can't think of what to draw? Fine, I'll draw my room. Can't muse on a story? All right, I'll just journal about my day in narrative style.

For me, at least, it's all about adding twigs to the low-burning coals of inspiration and motivation so that they can get warm enough to handle an actual chunk of firewood...metaphorically speaking.

So, what about you guys? Do you have any habitual way of dealing with the infamous "block" that plagues us all? What insights can you share with your experiences?

As a natural lazy-arse, I just wait for some inspiration to suddenly pop-up or sometimes I just get over that artblock then quitting half way through or finish it with undesirable results XD

Haha, that doesn't really sound much like dealing with the issue. But, then again, it gets under some people's skin more than others.

i'm currently having some issues with some very important stories i have saved up. I really have to take a break from it and work on something else. It usually comes back to me when i have it on the back of my mind. so long as i dont forget about it.

Ironically, I just finished the short project I was working on to get myself back into the swing of writing...a week after I planned on having it done. So, that other project that I really wanted to get done by the end of Winter Break? Good luck, have fun, I guess, although I should be into the swing of writing at least a scene a day on it starting tomorrow since I've recruited a friend of mine to keep me on a schedule.

Then again, financial aid is being quite possibly the largest human phallus imaginable regarding this semester's tuition, so who knows? It's hanging over my head that I might get booted because they aren't letting me access my loans because something to do with me being a dependent and my father's verification form not going through.

Those type of things do sound serious. i hope it gets resolved soon. Usually colleges will look into it until they find the problem for those kinds of things.

Yeah, update on that: They're protecting my schedule status as of right now, so hopefully we can get one last loan to come up and go through before the start of classes. But yeah, today was stressful because we had to get all that sorted out and financial aid is nearly useless over the phone, but forget trying to drive through the snow. And I have work tomorrow to go through it in. Ugh.

But, sometimes dayjob's gotta come first.
