i can tell this was a little older and you are more capable now than in the past

It's actually a month old. I went through a period of time where I kind of abandoned my artwork, so I'm a bit worse than I was in the past.

You're right about the masks, they were way too detailed and don't really look like masks. It wasn't my intention and I wanted them to be obvious and apparent.

It was hard for me to relate to him just by having his heart broken for seeing someone he didn't know with someone else

They actually got into a relationship and knew each other for a good while before she broke his heart. Maybe it didn't come across as such because of the limited number of pages.

Do you intend on remaking this? I think it would leave aa stronger impact if you did. Its definitely a good for 10-page manga competition.

I might remake it in the future but I'm really not that fond of it. I kind of saw it differently in my head and I wasn't able to translate it onto paper in a satisfying way. I'm currently working on "Reverse" so we'll see what happens.

Thanks for the critiques, much appreciated.

@Lumaria: Yeah, I have a bad habbit of never creating character design sheets before starting a story, so my characters rarely look consistent and they change haphazardly from page to page. These aren't finalized though so I can fix the issues you mentioned.

@Orchid: Thanks! The guy is a cop, not sure what you mean by police manga. The guy has the ability to "redo" his actions by going back 5 minutes into the past.

I started an Instagram account around a week ago. Well, restarted is a better term for it. I had an account for 3 years but it wasn't going anywhere, stuck at like 40 followers and losing followers each time I posted. This one seems to be going good, mostly because I'm doing One Piece fanart because no one seemed to care enough about my original artwork. If anyone is interested I can post my account name on here.

I'm hoping this'll be an art dump for the project I'm working on. I think I posted about it some time ago, it's a story called Reverse.

Right now I'm done with the summarized script and I've started working on a rough storyboard for the pages and their paneling. I'm estimating a 30-40 page manga or at least arc, but that may end up changing. Any comment is helpful and appreciated.

Note: It is read from left to right, so those more accustomed to manga than comic books might feel a bit lost.

There was a small local comic book competition I took part in. This was a story I've had in my mind for quite some time, and I felt it best fit the 10-page limit of the competition. My heart wasn't in most of the pages so you'll notice some pages are worse than others. Feel free to give me your thoughts, I'd appreciate them.

Art style is definitely influenced by One Piece the most yeah. However I only started watching/reading it like 6 years ago, so I wouldn't say it's what got me into trying to create my own story, but it's definitely influenced the art side of it.

Death Note was something special. It was one of the first anime shows I ever watched, and to this day I still hold it in my top 5.

Out of curiosity. What manga influenced you the most into creating your own?

My username sort of gives it away but it was Dragon Ball Z. I remember finishing it and switching over to GT, getting disappointed by how everything wrapped up, and wanting to create a fan fiction of that universe. By then Dragon Ball was practically the only anime/manga I'd seen, but when I started to watch other things I eventually abandoned the idea of creating a fan fiction and decided I'd create my own story. So I'd say DBZ planted the idea of creating a manga in my head, but I would say Death Note was what made me want to create an original one. Not the most interesting inspirations, but I guess we all have to start somewhere.

I've theorized in the past that Steins Gate: 0 is using the alternate timeline of the future Okarin. Which would explain Steins Gate: 0's name. I did however wanted to leave that theory out in case that it was a major spoiler.

Just curious, did you by any chance watch an episode titled "23 Beta"? Because I've seen a lot of people starting S;G 0 without having watched that episode, and they end up being a bit lost. "23 Beta" came out I think a year before 0's anime started, as a teaser for what's to come. It's essentially the same as episode 23 from the original, but in the final minute or so instead of Okabe saving Kurisu, he gives up and starts wearing all black. It was a sort of pilot to S;G 0, a lot more suited than 0's first episode which didn't really explain much.

Yeah and I also agree about the intertwined side stories being hard to follow. In the VN they were essentially multiple routes, each with a beginning and an ending, so for example Kagari's whole memory thing was its own route, and almost every other side story you're seeing in the anime was like that. This is why I said that the VN was messy, because it switched between these routes in an almost random order and you were left to figure out how they were connected. The anime decided to combine them all into one somewhat original story, risking making it feel crammed but at the same time creating one whole story instead of multiple ones.

I definitely recommend rewatching the whole thing once it's over. I'll be doing the same. These types of stories are hard to follow on a weekly basis. Even as someone who's played the VN twice, I still find myself getting somewhat lost.

The second title doesn't know what it wants to be. Its just a continuation and feels like a what-if situation.
In the original anime, Okabe gave up trying to save Kurisu, but he received a video message from an older Okabe that told him not to give up and explained to him the "fool the world" plan. S;G 0 is the story of that Okabe. The Okabe from the video message was once the same Okabe on the rooftop. He gave up, started wearing all black and became depressed, and eventually found the solution for saving Kurisu and sent a video message to the past. I'm sure you understand this, but I needed to highlight how important this version of Okabe is to the original series.

So even if it does feel like a "what if" scenario as you described it, it isn't, because it actually happened. The Okabe in S;G 0 needed to exist, to fail, to grow older and to send the message that opened the door to Steins Gate.

The biggest mistake this series does is make Okabe (who was once a lovable and energetic main character) into a boring normal and overly depressed character.

I wouldn't call it a mistake considering anything other than a depressed and lifeless Okabe wouldn't make sense, but I understand where you're coming from.

In addition to all of this, there is a forced romance with this new character that used to be Makise's old friend. A few character push for this romance and it doesn't feel appropriate considering that Okarin eventually had feelings for Makise and the feelings were returned.

I agree with this. Both visual novels had this obsession with creating love angles. Almost every optional ending from the original visual novel had Okabe hook up with a different girl. I'm not a fan of Maho in 0, despite her rather important role. Way too many girls that are almost all somehow falling for Okabe.

I actually played the S;G 0 Visual Novel and while I won't spoil anything that hasn't been revealed in the anime yet, I'll leave a few of my thoughts on it.

Compared to the visual novel, the anime so far has been excellent. While with the original, the visual novel was superior to the anime, the reverse is true for 0, as its visual novel was extremely messy, rushed and made almost no sense in a lot of aspects. The anime has been handling it exceptionally.

I'll also say that between the original and 0, 0 is my favorite. The original had an edge by being fresh and a lot more simple, but 0 just gets so much better from here on out. There was a turning point in the original anime, at episode 12 or 13 if I remember correctly, where we suddenly went from a comedic show about time travel to a crushing story of someone trying to save his friend at all costs. That's all I'll say. If the anime doesn't screw itself over the upcoming few episodes, it should be an incredible ride towards the finish line.

Yeah, I drew a 10 page manga for a small local competition. I'll share it here once I scan and clean it up in Photoshop, considering I drew it all traditionally. I also wrote up several small stories which I'm also looking to share here in the coming days.

Might slowly start to post art again in the coming few days.

I personally play some games but ive been so busy. I actually play Nier: Automata but don't have a PSN anymore. It got hacked.

I haven't beaten Nier: Automata yet but I enjoy it a lot.

It's a great game, and I like it even more because of its niche nature.

I was a gamer. Was.
I stopped at the era of X360/PS3

Playing costs me money. When I bought an X360, it suffered a RRoD after a year so money = gone. I scrapped it. I moved to PS3 when the era of PS4 already started so I was late already. I played a few titles and that's it. My PS3 is still working but it's literally collecting dust at the living room. Last time I plugged the controller to charge it, it didn't. Had to charge it from a CPU.

I never had PS4/XOne/Gaming PC or those handheld games like 3DS/PSP2.

Been there. Every now and then there's a dry spell for me in which I cannot afford to play or buy anything. Hope you can manage to try out the new generation. It took it a while but we're finally seeing some great games.

I still play games from the 00's simply because my PC currently can't handle new games.

I have the fondest memories of early 2000's games. Sadly, my pc can barely run anything remotely taxing, so I'm stuck with my console.

The Tavern / Any gamers here?
« on: November 02, 2017, 03:41:14 pm »
I recently found myself enjoying videogames again. I'm currently active with Destiny 2 on the PS4, logging in every 2 or 3 days to do weekly challenges, and I'm also playing through Assassin's Creed Origins. The new Need For Speed's coming out in a few days too. Favorite game of the year so far has to be Nier: Automata. Persona 5 is a close second.

Is anyone here a gamer? What do you enjoy playing and what are you currently invested in?

The picture with Luffy's face and the "One Piece" lettering were cropped out of a random chapter. I also cropped the pointing finger but inverted its colors. The "Ch. 882/end" and "One Piece will be on break next week" were done using the Anime Ace 2.0 font, but I skewed it so that it's straight rather than the usual italic nature of the font.
