DBNext's Art Gallery

Hey there! This will be the start of my journey on Manga Mavericks :D
For the past year or so, I've been working on a story called "REVERSE". I'll share the specifics and hopefully the script itself once I get it organized, but for now, all you need to know is that it's a very dark and gritty tale that explores what a person might be capable of doing when he or she no longer face long term repercussions to their actions.

For now, here's a piece of concept artwork featuring main character 'Jack' and mysterious motel owner 'Erica'. Criticism and opinions are much appreciated.

Semi-final result: Thinking of cleaning up the lines and maybe coloring it.

And here's the progress:

Unfortunately my internet is weird and it's not allowing me to see the image (nostalgia). Do you have deviant art or photobucket? My internet seems to like that better.

@Lumaria: I edited my post to include Deviantart versions under spoilers. Hopefully that'll show up for you.

@変態: Thanks!it kind of is, at least that's what I'm shooting for. It does include an element of fiction (in time manipulation, not travel), but I'm trying to keep it gritty and realistic outside of that.

It's been a very long time since I saw your work. So I'm a little rusty on how your old work looks. Not sure this is the best drawing to see how much progress you made but it looks good.

I do remember lines looking a little extra jagged. I don't mind it really but I will say when adding in shade to clean up the white dots hanging around. Makes it much cleaner.

I'll have more to say when I see a full shot of the characters. The tattoo looks good. Reminds me of One Piece and Blame!

Yeah, man. The lines here are crisp, and each one brings out something in the piece. I'm kind of reminded of Gungrave for some reason, or at the very least I'm getting that vibe. You've really got a handle on the art of stylizing.

@Lumaria: I don't think I've progressed a lot since MR, mostly because I haven't been drawing as much since I left. And yeah, will do with the cleanup. I'll be posting more soon, I'm currently working on cleaning this up. Thanks for the feedback.

@Aimyraude: Thanks :)

@HematoLoMeIn: Thanks for the compliment :) I've never heard of Gungrave but I'm glad I did, looks interesting.

This is the finished version. I honestly had no idea what colors to use other than the fact that I wanted the mood to be dark yet "hot", as in the summer heat. So I kind of winged it in Photoshop by layering filters on top of each other and adjusting the color and exposure.
I'd love to hear your opinions and if there's anything to improve on.
I'm posting 2 versions of the image, one in low resolution to fit the forum space and one (in spoilers) in the highest resolution possible.

I think the colors work perfectly for what you're going for. It also adds to a sort of grime and dinginess that continues to remind me of Gungrave.

And damn that's some high resolution.

@Hemato: I kind of went overkill with the resolution XD My laptop was barely handling the file.

@Tara: I see what you mean, I'll try to work on her more in future drawings.

The stiffness has to do mostly with how she's positioned.if you try to put yourself in her exa ct position in sure you wouldn't be relaxed.

Her feet wouldn't be in the air and her arms are being hung in the air and not properly resting on her knees. There's no sense of gravity. If she would her arms like that at least her wrists should be bent down. Almost like if she was holding something that allows them to fall. The only way to justify her arms like that is if she was probably holding a flag.

It could also be the fact that you didn't draw her right leg too. So if you think if you would draw other foot would change the way she looks completely then I recommend adding it.

But isn't the part in black behind the first leg the other leg and foot?

Yeah it is, but I can see why there might be some confusion. I don't know, maybe I should have separated them by a thin white line so that the black looks like the other leg instead of shading. Or maybe I needed to have them in different positions, keeping the one in light color bent but the other extended. It still wouldn't change the upper body stiffness though, I guess.

No one sits perfectly symmetrical to the point that one leg covers the other completely. Im aware of the shadow and if the shadow exists to show that the leg is in a different position or at least visible the redt should be visible as well.

Drawing the leg completely and how it's positioned could change the overall pose of the character. Not saying it will fix it completely but show us what you were intending.

That shadow of the other leg is very awkward if you choose to pay attention to it. I can tell that you were focusing only on one leg and added the shadow AFTER rather than both legs.

So always draw both even if you think it's going to be hidden. Otherwise if you assume the flaws are much easier to point out.
